Our second to last day of 2nd grade was a reading campout day. The lamps were on, windows were open, but the lights were off. The students were using flashlights to read, do word searches, and create fun mad lib stories. We also enjoyed rootbeer floats for a surprise "yummy day" treat!

Some captured memories from a fun day at the park, and the only time everyone was actually all sitting down... lunch! :) Our class had a blast with the Manhattan Junior High Blue Crew today! We had a fun time doing different stations outside with lots of team building activities. :) To go along with our inventor unit in reading we made our own inventions! These are so creative. We had a "wax museum" in our classroom. The students stood around the room and had to freeze with their invention. Other students walked around to "unfreeze" them and ask questions about their inventions. On Friday the 2nd grade classes had a dodgeball tournament. Our team, the Red Bulls, got 1st PLACE!!! :) Congratulations to everyone! We did a two week author study on Robert Munsch. We read loads of his books while discussing genre, author's craft, theme, author's purpose, illustrations, and summarized them. The students were then responsible for reading a different book, not discussed in class, written by Robert Munsch. They summarized their book and put these "book trailers" together using the iMovie app on the iPads. They all worked so hard, and they turned out AWESOME! :) :) The Finished Products:Morgan & Alessiea: The Sand Castle Contest by Robert Munsch Fin & Weston: Pigs by Robert Munsch Ava & Emily: Smelly Socks by Robert Munsch Jeremiah & Collin: Something Good by Robert Munsch Mason: The Boy in the Drawer by Robert Munsch Aidan & Elena: Class Clown by Robert Munsch Emma & Carly: The Dark by Robert Munsch Max & Jimmy: Aaron's Hair by Robert Munsch Hailey & Griffin: The Fire Station by Robert Munsch Nolan & Mark: The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch Jacob & Kyle: The Sand Castle Contest by Robert Munsch We all had such a great time together on Friday afternoon at our 2nd grade Mother's Day Tea. There was a lot of pampering going on... beautifully painted nails, brushed hair, and massaged shoulders! Thank you, moms & grandmas, for ALL that you do! I hope you enjoy your day today. You are all so loved and appreciated! :) The end of the year is wrapping up with our ABC countdown. Here are some photos of the kids playing their games together on "Game Day"! On Friday the class presented their reader's theater plays to each other. They each were given a different fractured fairy tale to act out... Spiderella, Goldilocks & the Three Bullfrogs, Slurping Beauty, Three Little Elephants, and Little Late Riding Hood. They loved creating "backdrops", practicing their lines and acting out their parts with their group, and presenting their plays with props. Great job everyone! We analyzed three different kinds of cookies in science: Oreos, Chips Ahoy, and Vanilla Wafers. We needed to describe their properties of matter... size, shape, texture, color, etc. Anything with food is so much fun! |
