As a way to review and wrap up all that we have learned about contractions, we participated in contraction-ectomy surgery! We were surgeons for the entire afternoon with our own hairnets, gloves, face masks, scalpels (scissors), bone glue (glue sticks), and band-aids! Each group had a patient they needed to complete surgery on. Their bones needed major fixing. The procedure involved letter removals and apostrophe replacement. Their task was to cut the two words on the bones out, decide which letter or letters needed to be cut out, and then they had to glue the two bones together to make one. They put a band-aid where the letter or letters were removed and drew an apostrophe on the band-aid. It was so cute to hear their conversations... "I think our patient is going to make it!", "Now he can walk again!", & "Miss Reszel, I feel like I am a real surgeon!" It was a success for all 5 of our patients... Congratulations to all of our 2R surgeons! :) We all had a blast at Reszel Hospital on Friday afternoon.
ChatterPix after Surgery
As a way to culminate our contraction surgery, groups worked together with the "ChatterPix for Kids" app to speak as if they were the patient! Their responsibility was to explain what contractions are, and what happened during the contraction surgery.
Great job, everyone!
